Ninety Year-Old Veteran Foxes Supporter to Hand Over One Day Trophy

Leicestershire fan and former Royal Army Medical Corps member Bernard Warner will take part in a special guard of honor at Uptonsteel County Ground tomorrow as the Foxes begin their defense of the Metro Bank One Day Cup.

To commemorate their 50-over title win in September 2023 at Trent Bridge, Mr. Warner, 90, will represent Leicestershire CCC and return the trophy to the ECB. He will be joined by Armed Forces regiments, with service personnel providing the guard of honor.

A dedicated Foxes supporter for over 77 years, Mr. Warner first followed the Club in 1947, attending a match between Leicestershire and Northamptonshire at Grace Road. Among his favorite players are David Gower, Ray Illingworth, Phil Simmons, and Stuart Broad. He also had the chance to see Sir Donald Bradman play in 1948.

Leicestershire CCC CEO Sean Jarvis commented, “Winning the trophy last summer was a fantastic moment for the county, especially after over a decade without silverware. As we return the trophy, we couldn’t think of a better representative than Bernard.”

The event will start at 9:30am with special Armed Forces displays, including a military vehicle signal display and a military radio tent.

Leicestershire County Cricket Club is grateful to all who have served and are currently serving in the Armed Forces and looks forward to welcoming you to Uptonsteel County Ground.
