On Tuesday, April 4th, we hosted our first inclusive schools basketball tournament of the season at the Morningside Arena. We welcomed students from Westgate, Quorn Hall, Sketchley, and Birchwood—schools we’ve been coaching in our sessions over the past year.
The tournament was a great success, with Quorn Hall emerging victorious, winning all three of their matches. However, all four teams put in a tremendous effort and had a lot of fun.
Adam Wheatcroft from Quorn Hall School praised the tournament, calling it a fantastic experience for his students.
“This was the first tournament our students have participated in, and they thoroughly enjoyed the experience of playing on a professional court. They are eager to do it again. The staff at Leicester Riders Foundation were helpful, supportive, and engaged our students in friendly competition. I want to thank each staff member involved for their hard work in organizing and running the day.”
Darren Kay, our Head of Education & Schools Sport, was thrilled to host an inclusive tournament at Morningside Arena and to continue supporting students in their basketball development.
“The Leicester Riders Foundation is proud to have hosted this inclusion tournament. It’s about more than just introducing young people to sport; it’s about fostering values like teamwork and equality, regardless of ability. All the participants upheld these values with commitment and support. A massive thank you to all the schools who took part today and to my staff for their dedication throughout the event.”
